This September we are so happy to be heading back up north and getting into the boreal! Partnering with the Junior Forest Wardens (JFW) Woodlanders, one of our local societies, we are working on an exciting and informative weekend full of lots of adventure.
This September we are so happy to be heading back up north and getting into the boreal! Partnering with the Junior Forest Wardens (JFW) Woodlanders, one of our local societies, we are working on an exciting and informative weekend full of lots of adventure. While some details are still being finalized, one thing we are excited about is that we are extending our activities (for anyone interested) to include Friday during the day! Some of these Friday daytime activities may include early morning birding, canoeing on the Meadow River, a possible mushroom walk and trail hiking to name a few. Please note that there will be a small additional fee for registering for the additional days activities. We are also very pleased to be offering children’s programing over the weekend. Between the JFW Woodlanders and our NatureHood program we have lots of fun and educational activities for kids to do alongside the main meet including; traditional Indigenous games, pond dipping and a migration obstacle course just to name a few. The cost is just $20/child for the entire weekend, and it is sure to be a fun time had by kids of all ages! The itinerary is coming together nicely and this is going to be a great meet! Details will be added as they come together. *Please note that this portion is still being finanlized and the details may change. Friday Morning Registration will take place at the Woodlands Inn lobby (7:00-8:00am) Friday Evening Registration will take place at the Meadow Lake Senior Activity Centre at 6:00pm with our evening presenter on at 7:30pm. FRIDAY MORNING options: 1. B-Bar-C Ranch Tour – Visit to the Campbell Ranch on Beaver River, a holistic-management regenerative agriculture operation, they give tours that will blow your mind! (Carpooling, with location stops) OR 2.Morning Birding Tour at the Tether’s - Rob & Moira are longtime Meadow Lake residents, and lifelong birders. Rob recently retired from a career in wildlife biology and conservation, and Moira from education. They are delighted to welcome Nature Saskatchewan members to their rural property to explore their trails and share knowledge! LUNCH – we have added a good old bonfire and hot dog roast for all Friday day registrants! FRIDAY AFTERNOON options: OR 2.Forestry Driving Tour - Tolko Industries Woodlands Division have many interesting sites to visit & lots to talk about on the science and art of forestry management. (Carpooling, with location stops). Your tour guides professional foresters – are delighted to give you a peek behind the curtains of this significant northern industry. Bring all your questions and dress for the weather! FRIDAY NIGHT - Registration and presentations by the JFW Woodlanders, and Nature Canada's Director of Policy, Akaash Maharaj. SATURDAY MORNING options: 1.Morning Birding Tour at the Tether’s - For those who missed it Friday or want to go again! OR 2.Happening at the St. Cyr Trails (Times TBD): SATURDAY AFTERNOON options: 1.Mushroom Walk with Donovan Thiessen - Donovan is one of Saskatchewan's leading mushroom experts and this will be a slow-moving hike exploring the many mushroom habitats along the St Cyr trails. Bring a notebook, you’ll need it! OR 2.Self-Guided Longer Hikes -Explore the longer St Cyr Trails, which wind around small lakes, big hills and a variety of unique ecosites. There may be a guide available, but the trails are well marked, and NS members definitely have their own expertise to share! SATURDAY EVENING Unfortunately, Joanne Favel from the Sakitawak Indigenous Protected and Conserved Area (IPCA) has had to cancel her presentation, so we are hard at work finding another great presenter to fill the spot. SUNDAY MORNING As a perfect way to finish off the weekend, Sunday morning as we all head home, we get the opportunity to stop and take in our beautiful Turtle Lake Nature Sanctuary! Long-time sanctuary steward Darlene Roth and a crew of helpers are offering guided walks through this wonderful place, that has been a Nature Saskatchewan sanctuary for over 30 years! Host Hotel: Woodland Inn- 620-9th St W in Meadow Lake. We have a bank of rooms for Sept 17-20 being held for us and you can phone 306-236-5939 to book, letting them know you are booking under the NATURE SASKATCHEWAN block. These rooms are being held until SEPTEMBER 1. Camping: You can camp right in Meadow Lake at the Lions Park Campground https://meadowlake.ca/campground. There is also a Super 8, Travelodge and a couple other local motels available if you prefer, as well as other campgrounds near Meadow Lake if you feel like driving in (Meadow Lake Provincial Park is an hour away). We have an extended meet option available for the Fall 2026 meet! Because of this we have two online forms available. Please ensure that you are using the correct form when registering. If you are unsure, feel free to contact the Nature SK office (306-780-9273) and someone would be happy to help you. The Woodland Inn offers Continental Breakfast from 6-9am daily. Meadow Lake also has numerous places to grab breakfast and other meals, from your standard fast-food to local sit-down restaurants. Friday: Meals are on your own Saturday: Breakfast on your own. 1.Canoeing on the Meadow River – The Junior Forest Wardens have kindly offered their 6 canoes to use on the Meadow River (likely to see some birds, muskrat and more!) Spots are limited so register soon to ensure your spot (or bring your own canoe or kayak if you like) PFDs are in short supply so please bring your own if you have one that fits!

If you are joining us for the day please plan ahead and bring a pack lunch/snacks, or be prepared to pick something up between activities. *There will be light refreshments provided during the Friday evening events.
There will be a mid-day stopping point with lunch provided.
Dinner is a banquet at the Meadow Lake Seniors Citizens Activity Centre, catered by City Caterers.
